What you need to knowWisconsin is moving forward with plans to vote on April 7 and local clerks are encouraging voters to consider voting by absentee ballot.
As the coronavirus cases in the state continue to rise, Gov. Tony Evers has requested that absentee ballots be sent to every one of the state’s registered voters ahead of Wisconsin's April 7 presidential primary, state Supreme Court and local elections.
Voters must be registered to request absentee ballots. They can request absentee ballots until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 3 but clerks are requesting that they ask for them as soon as possible to help them keep up with the flood of requests they are getting. To be counted, the ballots must be received by clerks by the time polls close at 8 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, April 7. When your ballot arrives...Once you get your ballot in the mail, make sure you have both the ballot and the absentee certificate envelope so you can return it to your local clerk’s office.
Voters must fill out their ballots in the presence of one witness to verify the individual completed their ballot. A witness must be a U.S. citizen who is at least 18 years old and isn’t a candidate in the election.
Once the ballot is filled out, the witness needs to sign the absentee certificate envelope and provide their address, and the voter also has to sign and date it. Then the voter can mail the ballot, in the return envelope, back to their clerk.
Spouses, significant others and roommates can all act as witnesses.
VILLAGE OF EAST TROYThe Village of East Troy is encouraging voters to consider voting by absentee ballot. Requests can be made online at myvote.wi.gov or by sending a written request by mail or email with your name, residential address and mailing address and including a copy/picture of your Photo ID to voet@easttroywi.gov.
"Make sure to allow mailing time as the ballot needs to be returned before or on Election Day. If you are concerned that we will not receive the ballot before Election Day, you can place it in either of the drop boxes located at the Village Hall," village staff said.
If you are already registered, visit myvote.wi.gov and request a ballot be mailed to you.
If you are not registered, you may enter the Village Hall, 2015 Energy Drive, and register in person and vote absentee immediately. (Proof of residency is required for voter registration and Photo ID is required to vote.) Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 3.
Monday, March 30 is the last day for mailed and online voter registrations. If you need to register at your current address go to www.myvotewi.gov and register today.
"If you intend to register to vote on Election Day anticipate longer than normal wait times. We are re-configuring the polling place to accommodate social distancing and will only be able to allow a specific number of people into the building at a time," village staff said. ELECTION INSPECTORS NEEDED "Most of our Election Inspectors are in the 'high risk' categories and I would like to be able to have them 'sit this one out,'" explained Village Clerk Lorri Alexander. "If you are healthy and willing to work the election, please contact me at (262) 684-5478."
There will be training provided (about 1 hour), shifts are from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 1:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. The afternoon shift is in greater need of additional inspectors.
"During this time, we remain committed to our residents and community and will do all we can to provide the level of service you expect. We appreciate your understanding and support in the coming days and weeks," village staff said. TOWN OF EAST TROY
