The Elegant Farmer hosts its 5th annual Wisconsin Blue Ribbon Cheese Fest featuring tastings of more than 20 award-winning Wisconsin cheeses. Come taste the best the state has to offer including blue ribbon cow, sheep, goat and mixed milk cheeses. All are invited to attend the Wisconsin Blue Ribbon Cheese Fest free of charge June 20 and 21, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For those wanting a more in-depth cheese experience, climb aboard the Wisconsin Cheesemakers and Wine Train June 20, 1:00-3:00 p.m. This year showcases four of the state’s brightest cheesemakers and their unique cheese creations. Having studied with many of Wisconsin’s finest Master Cheesemakers, this next generation of Wisconsin’s fine artisan cheesemakers will surprise you with their vision and tasty cheeses. Meet cheesemaker Bill Anderson, founder of Crème de la Coulee, who specializes in soft-ripened French-styled cheeses and Anna Landmark, founder of Landmark Cheese sharing her sheep’s milk soft cheeses. In addition, veteran cheesemaker, George Crave, co-owner of Crave Brothers, will talk about reviving the family business and showcasing their marinated fresh mozzarella, string cheese and mascarpone. To top it off, the event includes award-winning champion, Katie Hedrich of LaClare Family Farm showcasing her delicious Evalon, Chevre, and Raw Milk Cheddar cheeses.
Come ride the rails on the Cheesemakers’ Train in air-conditioned comfort on board the beautifully restored East Troy Electric Railroad’s Dinner Car featuring an Art Deco vintage interior and elegant white tablecloth tables. The two-hour round trip departs and returns to The Elegant Farmer Depot, 1545 Main Street at Hwys ES & J, Mukwonago traveling through the picturesque woods and charming towns of Mukwonago and East Troy, Wis. The event also features wines from Mukwonago’s Pam’s Fine Wines, Mukwonago. Wine expert, Pam Turner will be on hand to talk about and sample a selection of fine wines paired with the various cheeses.
Tickets for the Wisconsin Cheesemakers and Wine Train are $39 each for the June 20, 1:00-3:00 p.m. train trip. Advance tickets are required and can be purchase atwww.elegantfarmer.com. The event includes hearty, on-board samplings of the cheeses, cheesemakers' talk, wine tasting and discussion, and an Elegant Farmer's famed Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag.
